The technique is called Skin Activating Liposuction (and alternatively known as liposculpture) because it activates the skin with the purpose of reducing the likelihood of skin looseness after surgery. A major complaint by people who have gotten liposuction in the past is that the fat is gone but the skin hangs loose around where the fat used to be. Nobody wants to have a belly that looks like it had plastic surgery so changes in techniques have worked to tighten up the skin.
