Although the recommended age for regular colon cancer screening is 50, there are times when it is recommended that people start getting screened at an earlier age.

The individual should get screening as early as one decade prior to the age of diagnosis of the family member who had the disease. For example, if your father was diagnosed with colon cancer at age 50 then you should start regular colon cancer screening by age 40.
Colon cancer screening is intended to detect signs of this devastating disease as early as possible. As such, it makes sense for people with a higher risk of the disease to begin testing at an earlier age.
