A
full body scan uses x-rays to make detailed pictures of structures the inside of the body. And you decided that you wanted to have a full body scan done and you've talked with your doctor and scheduled your appointment. Now you want to know what you need to do before your
full body scan. Here are a few pointers.
Things to do before a Full Body Scan Include • Telling your doctor if you are or may be pregnant.
• If you are breast-feeding. You will need to use formula for 1 to 2 days if you are given dye so you do not pass the dye to your baby. You should throw out any breast milk you collect during this time.
• Notify your doctor of any medication allergies, including iodine dyes.
• Tell your doctor if you have a heart condition, such as heart failure.
• Or if you have diabetes or take metformin (Glucophage) for your diabetes.
• Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems.
• Or have asthma.
• If you have thyroid problems, you need to let your doctor know this before your scan.
• If you've had multiple myeloma you need to tell your doctor.
• If you've had an X-ray test using barium contrast material like a barium enema or have taken a medication that contains bismuth (such as Pepto-Bismol) in the past 4 days. Barium and bismuth can interfere with testing, they can show up on X-ray films and make it hard to see the picture clearly.
• If you are claustrophobic or experience any anxiety when you are in small spaces, you should discuss this with your doctor. For a body scan, you will need to still inside the CT scanner, so you may need a sedative to help you relax.
You should arrange for someone to take you home in case you are given a sedative to relax you before your full body scan.
