Preventing Against Heart Disease with a CT Angiography

Heart disease is something that runs in many families. There are three main causes of heart disease, those being cholesterol, high blood pressure, and obesity. All three of these things happen not just because of genetics, but also because of a lack of proper nutrition. Many people like to spend their time eating fatty foods and not exercising, which is in turn a problem for their blood vessels.

However, nowadays there are various medical scans available that can detect circulatory problems in advance, such as the CT angiography. This procedure scans the body to precisely locate any problematic blood vessels that could lead to serious problems such as aneurysms or clots.

The CT angiography procedure is an outpatient one, which means that no hospital say is required. The person having the CT angiography done will need to arrive wearing clothes that do not have any metal in them. The patient will be asked to lie down on an examining table, and an intravenous may or may not be used to give the patient contrast material. The purpose of the contrast material is to further highlight the blood vessels so that the scan can easily detect them.

The CT angiography itself is a very short procedure, and it actually takes more time to prepare for the scan. Overall, the scan itself should take no more than a minute. Once the procedure is over, the technician will check to make sure the scan images are clear. Then, the patient can resume regular activities.
