Open MRI: A Great Alternative

Many people have fears about going to the office of a doctor, or worse yet, to a hospital. These fears can arise from many things, such as a previous bad experience or from hearing stories about bad things that have happened to others in hospitals. No matter where the fear of doctors and hospitals comes from, it can be truly debilitating for some people when they have a health issue and have to visit a doctor because they simply can not overcome their fear. Thankfully, there have been many medical advances in recent history that have helped patients to feel more comfortable in the hospital setting and therefore do not feel so much fear when they do have to go to the doctor.

One great advancement in hospital technology is the open MRI. Many patients have a fear of going in for an MRI because they fear being placed in the confining bed and being subjected to lie completed still while the test is being completed. People state that this test can be extremely uncomfortable even though it is a very non invasive test compared to others that doctors require patients to under go.

The great thing about the new open MRI is that it truly helps patients to feel much more at ease during the testing process and some even leave the hospital feeling that they were not even subjected to a test at all. The difference between the new type of MRI and the old type of MRI is that patients can sit comfortably in a chair and sometimes even watch television while the test is being completed. With the old type of test, patients had to lie down on a narrow bed and remain still while the test was being completed.

The new open MRI is really a remarkable invention for those patients that suffer from differing levels of claustrophobia and would not have been able to stand undergoing the previous type of MRI testing. Additionally, larger patients no longer have to suffer the embarrassment that used to sometimes accompany the testing of the older MRI when they could not quite fit in the uncomfortable bed. These patients can now relax while the testing is being completed, something that just would not have been a reality with the old type of testing.

Really the best part about this type of testing is that it will hopefully lead to a diagnosis of the health issue that you are suffering from, meaning that you can be on the road to recovery as soon as possible.
