Swelling in the brain, CT Scan showed damage to the brain stem.

My nephew has swelling in the brain, and when he had a CT Scan they said that he had damage to his brain stem. Also what is the difference between a ct scan and an MRI?

A MRI has more detail. A CT is usually ordered first.
