Just a Mammogram Isn't Enough

Women who are getting older all know that they need to get an annual mammogram. If they don't realize this, their doctors will tell them. But what their doctors may neglect to inform them is that the mammogram alone may not be sufficient to diagnosing breast cancer in its early stages. A new study reveals that some women may greatly benefit from adding a breast ultrasound to the standard annual mammogram that they have completed. This ultrasound is designed to catch cancerous tumors in addition to those detected by the mammogram. Women with breast cancer histories in the family should be asking their doctors about this information. Not everyone needs to get this kind of screening. However, it's important to bring it up in conversation with your doctor in order to determine whether it's necessary for you.
